VLOG : FROM THIS TO THAT

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then this is yesterday's news (literally) but for those of you who haven't heard, I have undergone a hair transformation!

Prior to this, I hadn't colored my hair in about 2 years and it had been at least 2 months since my last hair cut. Needless to say I was dying for a change and despite many of my friends saying that I should keep the raven locks, I was over it. It was time to go back to some lighter hair and say goodbye to those dead ends. Lucky for me, I have fantastic talented friends who agreed to help make this happen!

BEFORE

I get tons of questions regarding how I cut/color/style my hair so I thought that this would be a great opportunity to bring you guys along and show you how it gets done. I am not a hairdresser so I leave it to the professionals! Anna, who is a stylist at Chaz Dean Studio in Los Angeles, and I discussed what I wanted ahead of time and got on the same page: I wanted to go lighter all over (a warmer brown) then add highlights for dimension. No more flat black! I mean, I couldn't even wear black shirts without blending in!

A lot of people are concerned with going lighter because of the damage it can cause and I don't blame you. I have been growing out my hair for years and I like to treat it the best that I can. Lucky for me Anna uses low volume developer and no bleach, so even though the process can take a little longer it's far less damaging to your hair. Yes, please!

highlights
Anna lifted my base color to a beautiful rich brown, blew it dry then sectioned my hair to decide where she wanted to place the highlights. After the highlights processed and were washed from my hair she cleaned up my cut and got rid of those uneven scraggly ends. This is where I learned something big. My last hair stylist had been using a razor to thin some of the bulk from my hair and I had never given it much thought. That is, until Anna told me that by doing so on my hair texture (Asian/coarse) it can actually make my hair appear more dry and coarse than it already is! It makes total sense and I'm forever changed. So from now on, we play with layers.

I hope that this post & vlog were helpful to you all! If you are interested in getting your hair done by Anna Lee she can be contacted at Chaz Dean Studio in Los Angeles, CA. Available by appointment only on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. 323.467.6444!
